Ahimsa Non-Violence

Check out Strength to Awaken every Tuesday to learn about this ancient art and science.

Ahimsa Non-violence

"Do unto other as you would do unto yourself"
Most everyone knows the golden rule but what gives you to ignite this powerful
connector to your community?

In the Rig Vega, one of the oldest text speaking of meditation and sciences of the mind Ahimsa directly translates to do not harm anything.

For me of course it is treating every animal, tree and creature with the up most love and respect. As you would want to be treated. Not only because we are suppose to do this but literally the way we treat other is like treating ourselves that way.

Where does this love truly come from though? How can become self-sustaining?
By first loving yourself in a healthy way filling the glass full to over flow to others.

When I first had my son and I was a frantic new mother barely showered, looking like something out of a walking dead series my mother used to say to me," When an airplane starts to go down what is the first thing the attendants tell you to do? "

The answer is you put on the oxygen mask.
If you don't you and your children end up dying! Both of you will pass out in the incident unable to have the wits about to consciously save yourself or your children!
These same principles apply to life.

When we do care for ourselves and do those little things that make us feel better, we then have the energy to overflow with joy and giving into other peoples lives!

It is always important to maintain a balance. To make sure to take time out "refill" with joy and paper ourselves but also offer ourselves in service. This is why the rule of Ahimsa for some include the self-defense practices of martial arts if needed. Never being the catalyst or instigator but if the opportunity arose to maintain balance and kindness to self, self-defense is appropriate.

We must pamper our temple keeping in mind that it is just that, a material and earthly extension and housing for our soul. Offering service allows for us to realize that we are in the other person we are helping. They are not only our brother and sisters in spirit but also they too are the universe experiencing itself through human form. A healthy love for self gives just enough to oneself to not be attached to the self or absorbed in ego but gives just enough to be filled with love, to ignite the natural instinctual qualities of giving of self and building- working together in your community. B

Be kind.
Whether it be to yourself, an animal, the earth or a passing stranger.
Always start with filling the heart first.
